It’s time to start thinking about winter and also thinking about ways to boost your immunity so you can be prepared for the upcoming winter. I am not a big fan of the flu shot and think there are more natural methods of boosting your immunity this winter. I have listed some foods below that may aid in helping you in fighting off a cold or flu throughout the winter. If you are interested in boosting your immunity you might want to add the following foods to your diet:
Garlic: Helps to fight infection and lower cholesterol. Please use with caution when you have to come into close quarters with a life partner or someone you like. A breath mint maybe needed.
Mushrooms: Arm your immune system with mushrooms. Mushrooms increase the production and activity of White blood Cells. They increase the production of cytokines, which are cells that help fight off infection. They also contain polysaccharides, which are compounds that support the immune system.
Yogurt: I would look for brands with live cultures. The beneficial bacteria in yogurt are Lactobacillus reuteri that help block the duplication of viruses in our bodies. I would look for a yogurt with that particular ingredient.
Tea: Tea is always a good choice when it comes to boosting immunity. It helps to reduce mucus and helps with hydration. Tea has flavonoids, which are potent antioxidants.
Avocado: Helps with adrenal function and health and keep your immunity level high. Avocados have essential amino acids, antioxidants and some healthy fats that will aid in balancing hormone production.
Almonds: Has a ton of Vitamin E, which will help in fighting off colds. Also have B vitamins that help alleviate stress. Half a cup of almonds a day is plenty.
