Do poor Sleeping habits increase the risk of Diabetes?

Sleep apnea is a disorder that blocks the pathways and disturbs inhaling for a few seconds. The tongue is usually what causes the blockage and causes one to snore and wake up to breathe and then go back to sleep. A person with sleep apnea and is also at risk for diabetes is more likely to develop the condition. Why? The sleep disorder causes metabolic changes within the body by increasing insulin resistance. This is according to neurology specialists at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). The specialists also cited that there was an increased urge to consume carbohydrates due to once again the metabolic changes in the body from the lack of proper sleep. It’s a vicious cycle because the increased intake of carbohydrate will more than likely result in weight gain.
