Morning Sunlight May Help You Lose Weight

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s very easy for us Midwesterners to feel like through vampires after suffering through a frigid winter like we have had this year. In the state of Iowa we only have about 105 clear sunny days a year.

According to a recent study though increasing our exposure to morning sunlight may help us lose weight. According to an article published in PLOS One, obese women that were exposed to 45 minutes of sunlight between the 6 to 9 AM lowered their body fat and appetite. Another study also showed how exercising was more effective in morning sunlight as well. The earlier the exposure to morning sunlight the better.

The article stressed how morning sunlight has a tremendous effect on our circadian rhythms. I found this to be very true in my own exercise regimen. When I have had the will to get up early in the morning to exercise, I have noticed that I have been able to better maintain my weight versus when I attempt to exercise in the basement of my house during the winter evenings.

Of course getting up at 4:45 AM after going to sleep close to midnight is a lot easier said than done. When I have succeeded at this regiment I usually am in bed by 9 AM. If you are interested in trying this out please don’t hesitate to share your results with me.
