Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease affecting about 26 million in the United States. A new study suggests that one way to fight diabetes maybe to add yogurt to your diet. The research was published in BMC Medicine.
Researchers analyzed results of 3 studies. These studies looked at the lifestyles and habits of health professionals. Over 190,000 subjects were eligible for the study. The subjects were followed up every two years to check on how they were doing. During this time over 15,000 cases of diabetes were diagnosed among the participants. The study tracked the dairy intake of all the individuals in the study and what they found was that greater yogurt consumption may have lowered the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Of course, more studies are needed to verify this, but my opinion on this is that the yogurt may help with maintaining better gut health. Gut health is critical in maintaining overall health. A healthy gut can help keep reducing the risk of diabetes, weight gain and a host of other issues. If you need more help with improving your gut health, please contact us.
